The IFRRO community is saddened to learn about the passing of Mr Taichi Seo, the President of JRRC. Our thoughts are with Mr Seo’s family and our colleagues at JRRC.
Mr Seo was an active participant in IFRRO meetings over several years, attending and speaking at both the IWC and Asia Pacific Committee meetings, making many friends in the IFRRO community.
He first joined JRRC as the Vice Chairman of the Federation of Authors’ Organisation in 2003, later becoming the CEO of JRRC and most recently its President. In addition to his involvement with JRRC, Mr Seo served as a member of the Copyright Committee of Cultural Council of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. He was also a member of the Subcommittee of Legislation Issues and the Contract and Distribution Subcommittee. He was also involved in the IP strategy of the Japanese government as a member of the IP Strategy Headquarters / Verification Evaluation Planning Committee of the Cabinet Office, as well as the copyright administration of Japan. His close links with government indicate the esteem in which he was held, not only by the copyright industries, but also by the Japanese government.
Mr Seo contributed greatly to the development of JRRC and also influenced Japan’s copyright administration and Intellectual Property strategy. In addition to his contributions to copyright and intellectual property, he was a gifted and famous photographer, and a strong advocate for Japanese culture. He will be deeply missed by his family and by his colleagues and friends at JRRC and IFRRO.
If you wish to pass on your condolences to JRRC, please contact Ms.Okamura at firstname.lastname@example.org.
