IFRRO pays its respects on the passing of Carole Croella, Senior Counsellor at the Copyright Law Division of WIPO, and shares its deepest condolences with her family, friends and colleagues.
A copyright and Intellectual Property expert, Carole Croella worked for 20 years at WIPO and before that at the European Commission in Brussels. She was involved in a cross-section of copyright matters internationally, and she attended many IFRRO meetings, the last of which was the virtual gathering of IFRRO’s African Committee on the 23rd of July.
Carole was a tireless supporter of creators. She was engaged on many fronts – from broadcasting to strengthening the music sector in West Africa; from the resale right to reprography. For instance, in recent months, she led initiatives to better remunerate authors in the UEMOA region for the private copying of their works. IFRRO and other stakeholders always benefitted from her availability, willingness to help, and support.
Carole was a friend to many, who will remember both her absolute dedication to her work, her professionalism, and also her humour, kindness, and generosity.
She will be sadly missed.
