History of the organisation
The Jamaican Copyright Licensing Agency, JAMCOPY, was established in 1998 and became a member of IFRRO that same year. JAMCOPY received official recognition from the Government of Jamaica in 1999 as the national RRO.

JAMCOPY was established by Jamaican authors and publishers to manage copyright in text and image-based works and facilitate convenient and easy access to copyright content by way of licensing solutions. JAMCOPY also promotes respect for copyright through copyright education and supports the creative industries through its various alliances and programmes.

Remarks about the Board
Five (5) representatives are nominated to the Board by rights holder Member Organisations. Three (3) members of the board are by direct appointment based on their competencies and area of expertise. One user representative is nominated by an User Association. The tenth (10th) member of the Board is the Executive Director /Copyright and Related Rights Manager of the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office and is nominated by the Government of Jamaica.

Cultural deductions, through a Cultural Fund, supports national cultural development through established organisations as well as JAMCOPY initiated projects.
New developments / legislation
The Jamaica Copyright Act 1993 was amended in July 2015. In addition to being WCT & WPPT compliant, the amended Act increased the term of copyright protection to 95 years and also introduced measures for the regulation of CMOs. The draft legislation for the regulation of CMOs also includes provisions for the introduction of an Extended Copyright Licensing system.
New developments / licensing
Through a regional Caribbean initiative, regional licensing is being pursued on behalf of all the Caribbean RROS, starting with the regional licensing of The University of the West Indies (UWI), the regional university with 3 landed campuses (in 3 Caribbean countries) and an Open Campus.
