IFRRO and some of its members are among the 99 organisations from across the cultural and creative sector that have signed a letter calling for strong and systemic support measures at EU and national level to help the sector’s recovery from the Covid-19 crisis.
The letter underlines that the proposed recovery package announced by the European Commission on 27 May does not reflect the reality of the cultural and creative sector and falls short of the sector’s expectations. It calls for a substantial increase of the ‘Creative Europe’ budget and a guarantee that the entire sector can benefit appropriately from the recovery plan’s various instruments.
The letter was sent to EU Member States and the European Parliament ahead of the European Council meeting on 19 June, where the EU’s 27 heads of state and government discussed the EU budget and recovery fund plans. There will be further negotiations at a summit to be scheduled for mid-July.
