HISTORY OF ORGANISATION
History of the organisation : The Mauritius Society of Authors has been established by the Copyright Act 1986 and continues to exist as a body corporate and is managed and administered by a Board. MASA collects licence fees from music users and distributes the money collected as royalties to its Members as well as foreign authors, composers and publishers through international affiliated Collective Copyright Management Societies worldwide. The Mauritius Society of Authors (MASA) is the sole body corporate in Mauritius representing and defending authors’ rights. It has been in existence for over 20 years. MASA’s key function is to administer the rights in the musical works of its members and the members of its affiliated societies. MASA functions as a Collective Management Organisation (CMO) is to negotiate licences with music users who then have access to MASA’s and Confédération Internationale des Sociétés d’Auteurs et Compositeurs - CISAC’s extensive repertoire of copyright musical works.
