HISTORY OF ORGANISATION
History of the organisation : JAC was established in 1989 by four leading academic associations of the scientific and engineering academia in Japan: The Japan Federation of Engineering Societies(JFES), Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies(JASS), Japanese Association for Dental Science(JADS) and The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan(PST) . Then JAC was requested to join the foundation of reprographic rights center of Japan together with rightholders of academia, industries and arts. In 1990, JAC, Copyright Council for Publishers and Federation of Authors Organizations, jointly founded Japan Reprographic Rights Center (JRRC). JAC has bilateral agreements with 26 RROs.

Remarks about the Board : The Board consists of 18 members, half of whom are nominated by four leading academic associations of the scientific and engineering academia in Japan: The Japan Federation of Engineering Societies(JFES), Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies(JASS), Japanese Association for Dental Science(JADS) and The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan(PST). President, Vice-President (up to three) and Executive Director are elected by mutual vote of these 18 members.

Types of institutions/sectors licensed : JAC licenses through JRRC the reproduction of domestic works to some 5,600 users: mostly companies and some universities as well as governmental organizations. However, reproduction of foreign RRO's works is directly licensed by JAC to some 900 users.
