Course packs, university and school intranets and other digital uses in the education sector in reliance on the statutory licence. Voluntary digital schemes include aggregated journals for subscription and transactional use; intranet, internal email, scanning and storage in corproate sector; scanning and emailing press clips and downstream press clip use. CAL uses Electronic Use Surveys to estimate volumes and types of works used digitally. The results of these surveys are used to calculate licence fees and distribution allocations.
Types of institutions/sectors licensed : Statutory: Digital reproduction and communication in education sector. Restricted mandate for government use which does include digital copying.
Intranet, internal email, scanning and archival storage of works in the corporate sector; digital press clipping including downstream use in corporate sector and by government departments; and online journal aggregators.
