Twelve international organisations representing creators and rightholders in the music, film and publishing sectors - IFPI, IMPALA, FIAPF, IVF, FIAD, FIA, FIM, ICMP, IPA, IFRRO, CISAC and BIEM – have submitted a joint statement to the WIPO General Assembly underlining their support for the WIPO work programme on development issues and asserting the positive role of copyright as an engine for growth. They reiterate their commitment to assisting developing countries and their creative communities in enabling the use of IP for the benefit of cultural and economic development.
The statement comments on the work of the Advisory Committee on Enforcement (ACE) and the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) and in particular mentions the Stakeholder Platform addressing access for the visually impaired, which can act as a model for finding voluntary solutions.
