European Economic and Social Committee tells the European Commission to take better account of the publishing industry

On 25 April, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) adopted an opinion on “Book Publishing on the move”.

This opinion underlines the importance of the publishing industry for Europe and the challenges it faces as it is moving to digital.

Amongst other, it addresses the issue of Intellectual property, standards, taxation and preservation.

It also encourages the European Commission to better take into account the publishing industry when considering its strategy for a digital Europe and to ensure constant dialogue to really address the needs of the book in the Digital era.
